Signing Up For Health Insurance

Released from the army and need to understand how to sign up for health insurance? Find below a guide to the entire process!

You can only sign up for Israeli health insurance after you’ve completed your aliyah process.

  1. The first step is to locate the closest postal bank (official post office).
    • Make sure to bring with you: Teudat Zehut and Teudat Oleh!
  2. At the bank, you will tell the teller that you have come to sign up for health insurance. At this point, you should know which health insurance company (Clalit, Macabi, etc) you would like to receive. Click here to read a comparison of the different health funds. The teller will ask you which health fund you would like to sign up for.
    • Personal tip – The differences between the health funds are minor. Make sure that you pick a health fund with a branch that is close to your home for maximum convenience.
  3. After paying a small fee, the teller will give you a form to take to the local branch of the health fund that you would like to sign up for.
    • You will not be officially covered until this step is completed.

Please Note

  • Most health funds will offer the first year free to released Lone Soldiers! Take advantage of this.
  • Note that there are different health plans in each fund (more expensive plans provide more extensive coverage, cheaper plans provide more basic coverage). The monthly fees are not high and in my opinion you should consider one of the more extensive health coverage plans.
